Celebrating Our First Year in the Courtyard
It’s hard to believe that a whole year has passed since we first opened the doors at Creature Comforts Upholstery. Honestly, it feels like just five minutes ago.
What started as a small idea — and simply a space to get out of the house and do what I love — has grown into something far bigger than I ever imagined. Over the past year, we’ve experienced steep learning curves, late nights, early mornings, and countless rewarding moments. Along the way, we’ve also made many wonderful friends here in the Courtyard, building a community we’re incredibly proud to be part of.
From One Workspace to a Growing Upholstery Studio
When we began, Creature Comforts Upholstery was just one small workspace — a place to upholster and create. Fast forward twelve months and we’ve grown into a small team of three people, with two dedicated spaces: one for hands on upholstery and soft furnishings work and another for our little shop and design consult space.
Our motto has grown with us too. What began as “no furniture goes to the grave” has evolved into “every piece has a story” — a reflection of our passion for restoring, reimagining, and preserving furniture with meaning. Today, our shop feels alive with creativity, conversations, and ideas every single day.
Design Consultations, Gifts, and Creative Inspiration
Our original workshop has now been transformed into a design consultation space — a place where ideas take shape over fabric samples and coffee. This is where we collaborate closely with clients to plan custom projects that suit their homes and lifestyles.
Alongside this, we’ve introduced a small collection of gifts and home pieces. This addition has brought new energy into the space, allowing visitors to browse, chat, and feel inspired while getting a true sense of what Creature Comforts Upholstery is all about.
Proud to Achieve AMSUF Accreditation
One of our biggest milestones this year has been gaining AMSUF accreditation — an achievement we’re incredibly proud of. This recognition reflects the quality, care, and craftsmanship we pour into every upholstery project, and it marks an important step forward for our growing business.
Meet the Creature Comforts Team (Including the Four-Legged Ones)
Of course, no reflection on the past year would be complete without mentioning Murphy, our Head of Security, and Beanie, Head of HR.
Murphy has been my trusted co pilot on countless van adventures — meeting customers, supervising jobs, and reminding me to enjoy the journey (especially during our daily walks and games of fetch). Beanie, meanwhile, has been the comforting, presence through many long and sleepless nights,
Lessons Learned and Looking Ahead
This past year has taught me so much — about running a small business, trusting my instincts, building a team, and believing that small ideas can grow into something truly special with courage and a lot of hard work.
To everyone who has supported us, trusted us with your furniture and welcomed us into your homes thank you. To those who have joined our workshops, popped in for a chat, shared or liked our work on social media, or cheered us on — thank you! I couldn’t be prouder of how far we’ve come.
And most of all, I cannot thank my incredibly supportive dad and partner enough for the countless hours they’ve given to help ensure I succeed. I truly couldn’t have done this without them.
